Villa Nocturno · The story

There are no plans in the morning. You step out the door and you are already riding.

Route

Parenzana was a narrow‑gauge railway that ran from 1902 to 1935 from Trieste via Buje to Poreč. The tracks have long gone, but the route remains: embankments, viaducts and tunnels through the hills, today one of the most beautiful cycling routes in Europe. It passes about 50 metres from the estate entrance.

You do not need to look for the start of the route or load bikes into the car. Ride while the air is still cool and the woods smell of dew. In one day you can go to Grožnjan and back, or further via Livade to Motovun if your legs allow. The route is gentle, because the train had to go gentle. There is shade, and a tavern halfway as well. Stage maps and GPS tracks await in the house.
